Help With Searching

To search this database, information in one of the following categories is needed. The system will not function if information is provided in more than one category:

Searching by name:
When the social security number or I.C.E. candidate number is not available, a search by name can be performed. Please note that a name is not a unique identifier. There is always the possibility that the person reported by this system is not the intended individual but is a different person with the same name. You also may be unsuccessful in locating an individual because the name in our records may not be identical to the name you are using to perform the search.

To perform a name search, the individual's last name (as well as first name/initial and middle name/initial, if known) and date of birth may be entered. Specify whether the name returned should match exactly or only needs to be similar to the name you have entered. Finally, because some names are common, you can specify the maximum number of names to be listed.

Name searching tips:

  • Do not include suffixes (e.g., Jr., Sr., III) with last name.
  • When searching for someone with a common name, such as Smith or Patel, begin by providing as much information as possible. Select the "exact" match option.
  • When searching for someone with an uncommon name, or if you are uncertain of the spelling, provide as much information as possible. Choose the "similar" match option.
  • Try common alternatives, such as Dick for Richard or Bill for William.
  • If you are unsuccessful in locating the individual, repeat the search with only an initial for first or middle name.
  • If you are still unsuccessful, leave the date of birth blank.
  • Individuals sometimes change their last names for marriage or other reasons. Try both names individually and together in a hyphenated format.
  • Try reversing first and middle or first and last names.

Searching by social security number:
I.C.E. maintains social security numbers on most individuals in its database. Not all examinees have provided this information, however.

Searching by I.C.E. candidate number:
This is the number I.C.E. assigns to examinees when their application is received. Once an examinees is credentialed, this becomes the credential number.
